Amy and Nora are more than just mother and daughter. They are also best friends, something that is evident to anyone spending even a few minutes with these two lovely women. I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with them at Amy’s home in Nevada City. We had so much fun with lots of laughing and many playful moments during their mother/daughter portrait session. Amy and her husband Chamba own Summerthymes Bakery and Deli in Grass Valley. Drop by sometime and partake of the tasty, organic and local food options that are offered up with conscious intent and love. I feel blessed to call these women my friends.
Justin came up from San Diego to Truckee for this photo shoot. We went to the old train tracks above Donner Lake. Justin was a real sport because it was cold and windy and he was standing out of the sun’s mild winter warmth the entire shoot. As you can see, he was not exactly dressed for Truckee in April. Thanks Justin, you are awesome!
The amazing and talented dancers from the Nevada Union High School Theatrical Dance program are at it again. Choreographing and dancing their passion, that is. Once more I am so grateful to be able to photograph these talented high school dancers. Each of the dances is choreographed entirely by a dancer in the program. One of things that make this annual event so touching is the stories we get to hear, the glimpses into the heart and soul of the choreographer as they describe their personal journey into dance and especially into choreography. Talented, poised, beautiful (and handsome), graceful and powerful. This group of high school dancers are all these and much more. If you live in Nevada County, please come enjoy an evening filled with music, dance and magic. You won’t be disappointed.
Spending an afternoon on a high school senior portrait shoot is definitely on my short list of best ways to spend part of a day. Alanna was such a sport, clambering over rocks at the creek, then posing in downtown Nevada City as the usual weekend foot traffic meandered on by. We ended this fun shoot in the garden at her home, in all it’s fall glory. Thanks Alanna!
We are so fortunate here in Nevada County California as the arts are highly valued and the community is filled with an abundance of talent. Our northern California community is so rich in art and music appreciation and we all benefit from this, especially our youth. I am always amazed and thrilled by the passion and talent these dancers bring to their craft and I am so grateful to be able to photograph them for another year. Nevada Union is the largest of the high schools in Nevada County, located in Grass Valley and the VERY TALENTED dancers dazzle us with multiple performances each year. Here is just a little peak into the 2013 NUHS Theatrical Dance Student Showcase.
